PSAT/NMSQT

On Wednesday October 12th, 2022, we will be administering the PSAT/NMSQT here at Fossil Ridge High School in the Gymnasium. There is a $22.00 charge for this exam. This charge is to offset the cost of the test and administrative costs related to the optional PSAT test for National Merit Qualifiers. (The required PSAT/SAT testing in the spring is provided free of charge.) We have seats for 150 Juniors and 50 Sophomores for the National Merit Exam. Sophomores who sign up to take this exam are unable to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship, so essentially this is just another practice test for them. To register, log in to SchoolPay and search for PSAT/NMSQT Test: 10th Grade 2022-2023 -OR- PSA/NMSQT Test: 11th Grade 2022-2023. This is a first-come-first-served registration process, and the deadline to register by is Thursday, October 6th at 10:59 p.m. MST. Students are to report to the Gym by 7:30 a.m. on October 12th, as exam administration begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. Subject to waiver; only students who pay will be able to participate. Students should bring an approved calculator, spare batteries, two number 2 non-mechanical pencils, and their student ID. Please note that cell phones will need to be powered off and left with a proctor during the exam. This year the PSAT/NMSQT is taking place on the first day of our finals schedule. This means that students will be missing their last class meetings for all four periods before their final exams and will potentially leave right after the test (with a brief break for lunch) and take final exams for periods 3 and 4. Staff Appreciation Lunch An alternative is for students to arrange with their teachers to take those two exams during the makeup period on the afternoon of October 13th, however that may mean that they are taking four finals on October 13th. I would encourage your students to inform their teachers that they will be missing the last 4 periods on October 12th so they can get any pertinent information that they might miss. For more information about the PSAT/NMSQT, feel free to visit the College Board website at the following link: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat-suite-benefits-studentsparents/why-take-psat. For free, customized, test preparation, students are encouraged to link their College Board account with Khan Academy.
